South Texas Whitetail Deer Hunting Trips
Whitetail deer hunting at Mellon Creek Ranch is a true hunter’s paradise. Spanning over 110,000 acres, the ranch offers some of the richest and most diverse whitetail hunting grounds in South Texas. Located just outside Refugio, northeast of Corpus Christi, the landscape here shifts from bayfront and prairieland to saltgrass marshes, crop fields, and thick brush, creating the perfect habitat for whitetail deer to thrive. Thanks to the use of MLD permits, the rifle hunting season extends from October through January, giving hunters a generous window to experience the land and its wildlife.

What to expect on your Whitetail Deer Hunt
The meat, management, and MCO hunts typically last three days, while the Trophy Buck hunt spans five days. Each hunt begins the evening of your arrival, followed by full days of hunting and a final morning that concludes by noon. Upon arrival, you’ll have the opportunity to sight in and prepare your rifle on the ranch’s shooting range.
Most hunts follow a safari-style approach — spot and stalk — with shots taken from shooting sticks or prone positions. Depending on the season, hunting typically happens during the first and last 2–4 hours of daylight, when deer are most active.
Once a harvest is made, the ranch team assists with field dressing, skinning, quartering, and caping. Processing and shipping arrangements can be made, including delivery to a recommended local taxidermist or processor. Shipping capes or horns directly to you or your taxidermist is available for an additional fee.
